Keeping Pests out of Your Fourth of July Party

As the temperature starts to rise and the clouds depart to reveal bright and sunny skies, people from around the nation will plan a Fourth of July party for their friends and family. You will need to keep an eye out for pests if you are going to follow the same path, and doing so does not need to be too difficult. If you allow pests to get into your yard during your party, insects could bite and sting your guests. The unwelcome invaders could even taint your food and spread diseases if you are not careful. Fortunately, a proven plan will help you avoid the problem and keep your guests comfortable.

Keep Bees and Other Stinging Insects Away

If your goal is to create a positive experience for each of your guests, stopping bees and other stinging insects from getting too close to your party is an important piece of the puzzle that you don't want to ignore. One sting is enough to cause pain and skin irritation that can last for a few hours or days. You can prevent bees and wasps from causing harm by cutting the top off a 2-liter bottle. The next step involves filling the bottle with sugar water and putting the top back on upside down, creating a funnel. When the stinging insects go inside, they will not be able to get back out.

Keep Ants Away

Ants are always a problem during the summer months, especially during a Fourth of July party. To find additional food sources, ant colonies send scouts into the surrounding area to locate viable resources, and your Fourth of July party could be the next target. You can buy ant traps from the store and place them around your party if you want to keep ants away from your guests. Also, spray lemon juice around the tables and eating area to mask the scout's scent trail, preventing the rest of the ants from finding you.

Keep Mosquitoes Away

As the hours pass and you and your guests get ready for fireworks, you will likely hear the annoying buzz of mosquitoes, and the parasites won't take long to bite. If you don't want these flying pests to bother your guests, cut your lawn and remove standing bodies of water before you host the party. Also, keeping mosquito spray on hand will work wonders.
